The AGM as been organised this year to coincide with the dedication of a bench, which is being placed in or about the church yard of St John’s Church, Ballachulish. The bench is in commemoration of the first President of our Society, the Rev James Duffy.

It is hoped that Mrs Sheila Duffy, whom many of your know very well, will be there to help us make this a very memorable occasion.

The Onich Hotel has been booked and is situated about 4 miles from Ballachulish in Onich. The views from the windows of the hotel are really beautiful.

As you will see at the top of the page, Rev. Jim Duffy drew this small sketch giving a view which you will see when the bench is placed at the very historical spot of the Store House, which is part of the church grounds. We are hopping that everyone will congregate at 11 am at the Store House. Then, there can be a soup and sandwich lunch at the Hotel afterwards.

It goes without saying that after Dinner, we will have a wee ceilidh, so wet the thrapples and have a wee song. Sheila Duffy’s daughter, Jacquie, will be with us, and hopefully she will bring her clarsach with her. This is worth coming for alone!

There is a long story attached to the commemoration of this bench, and I think it would be lovely for everyone to hear the story from Sheila herself, perhaps after dinner, and then you can savour it within the ambience of the evening, scenery and after-dinner mints. For those of you who cannot be there with us, we will write the whole story down and print it in the next Galley.

Our Society will also be celebrating it’s 30th Anniversary, so this should make a very good time, not only to have the AGM, but a ceilidh worth remembering.

We are hoping that some of the folks that used to know Sheila and Jim Duffy will come along to the dinner with us.

I have made a provisional booking at the Onich Hotel, Onich, and the room prices etc are:

Double/Twin/single room b&b £40 per person

Dinner £22.50

I have asked for a light lunch of tea and sandwiches to be provided for those who would like them. This will be £6.50 each for those would like a lunch.
