Now, as you know, this has been a very successful venue for the Burns’ Night. We are always made very welcome indeed by Pearse House, so for those of you have not made it yet, please do try and keep this date in your diary.

On the subject of things not having been set! Can I have volunteers please. We have various wee speeches to make, and it is always left to the same people to make them. Which is nice too, but it would be good to have some variety. No one makes any criticism about the speeches. They can be good, or bad, funny or even sad. Poignant could be nice. Funny, even better. It really does not matter. If you are a novice, there is no way you could be worse than I am myself. I always have really good ideas, and know exactly how to say things that are witty and clever, and then I stand up and the mind goes blank!!! I do it every time. Always, about three weeks later, I can think of a really funny thing to say, but you have all gone home by then. There is no competition either, so please, come and try.

The speeches are, as always:

Grace
The Toast to the Haggis
Immortal Memory
Toast to the Lassies
Reply to Toast to the Lassies

If there is someone out there who can learn the odd poem or two, the more the better. You can memorise it, or read it out of the book. We do not mind at all.

This is a very easy venue to reach. There is a main line station there. Stanstead Airport. Bus services from London, and very close to the M25.
