Secretary’s
report This has nothing whatsoever to do with The Clan Society, or The Galley, or even of interest to anybody, but I thought it might amuse you. First of all, in order to stay at a Youth Hostel while we were in Sweden, we applied to join the Youth Hostel Association. This ensures a substantial discount. Nothing very remarkable there but keep that thought in mind! On with the story. My son-in-law happened to leave some of his luggage at the Airport, and I was asked to go and collect it. In order to collect this item, I had to produce proof of Identity. That was no problem whatsoever, but, the chap behind the ‘Left Luggage’ counter was in a very jokey mood and asked me for confirmation of identity, when I asked what document he would like, he laughed and asked for my Youth Hostel Association card. Well, you should have seen his face when I produced it. With a great flourish!!! Oh, I did enjoy the joke. He did not know what to say. Mind you, I got Fernando’s computer back for him, which was the object of the exercise. For those who have not met me, I am in my rather mature years. Say no more! For the Secretary’s Report, however, I would like to ask if there was a volunteer out there who could take over this position. As you may or may not know, I have been assisted by Sheila Knowles, who takes the minutes for me. This has proved to be a great help. I do find now that it is difficult to hold a pen for any length of time, although I do try and take notes whenever I can, but reading them back usually proves difficult. If you are interested in taking over the job, can I tell you how interesting it is to receive letter from folks, some are even complimentary. I have been Secretary for many years now, but nor it would be beneficial to the Society to have some new blood arranging things. New people add a new flair to meetings. Please think about it.
